Organising an Iftar for Members of the Algerian Community in the United Kingdom

On 14 March 2026, the Consulate General of Algeria in London organized a collective Iftar dinner for members of the Algerian community residing in the United Kingdom. The event was held in the Consulate’s reception hall as part of initiatives aimed at strengthening communication with members of the community and fostering a spirit of solidarity among them during the holy month of Ramadan.

In his remarks on the occasion, Consul General Mr. Abdelmadjid Amini welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that the gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen bonds of communication and fellowship among members of the community, while preserving their connection to their homeland and cultural identity.

The event brought together a diverse cross-section of the Algerian community, including representatives of community associations and civil society, as well as students, academics, professionals, businesspeople, officials from Algerian schools in the United Kingdom, and Algerian nationals residing in the country without legal status.

The evening began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Sheikh, Imam and Qur’an reciter Walid Mehasas. The programme also featured a Qur’an memorization and recitation competition for children from the Algerian community. At the end of the competition, the participants were honoured in recognition of their efforts and as encouragement to continue memorizing the Holy Qur’an. A young student was also honoured on the occasion of observing Ramadan fasting for the first time.

The collective Iftar provided an opportunity to strengthen communication and bonds of friendship among members of the community and to recreate the atmosphere of Ramadan in Algeria through the serving of traditional Algerian dishes, drinks and sweets that reflect the customs and traditions of the holy month.
