Organization of a Mobile Consular Service in Cardiff

As part of the proximity policy pursued by the Consulate General of Algeria in London, a mobile consular service was organized in Cardiff on February 15, 2026, with the aim of facilitating access for members of the Algerian national community to various consular services.

The initiative, organized in coordination with local community associations, was met with significant turnout from citizens residing in Cardiff and surrounding areas. A wide range of consular services were provided, including biometric passport applications, consular registration, civil status services, national service matters, powers of attorney and document legalization, as well as the delivery of completed documents and the provision of various information and consultations.

The event also provided an opportunity to meet with members of the Algerian community, allowing them to raise their concerns and receive clarifications on various matters. They were also informed of the decision to enable the renewal of passports remotely in the future, as well as the possibility of travelling with an expired Algerian passport accompanied by a valid foreign passport until December 31, 2026. Information was also provided on the presidential measures concerning the regularization of the legal status of certain members of the Algerian community residing abroad.

Citizens welcomed the initiative, which notably enabled biometric passport applications to be processed for the first time in Cardiff, and expressed their wish for such mobile consular services to be organized on a regular basis.
